🏠 From My Hometown: I built Yatra because my own family in Bhagalpur struggled to plan our Kedarnath trip. There's no direct train from Bhagalpur to Haridwar — you must go via Patna first. This guide covers the exact route my family took, with real prices and train numbers. If we could do it, you can too.
Bhagalpur is a smaller city in Bihar, and unlike Patna, there is no direct train to Haridwar. You'll first travel to Patna Junction, then catch a Haridwar-bound train from there. This adds a few hours to your journey but the connection is straightforward and well-timed.
Distance: ~230 km · Time: 4-6 hours
| Train | Departure | Arrival | Class | Fare |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bhagalpur-Patna Intercity (13235) | 6:45 AM | 12:30 PM | CC (AC Chair) | ₹350 |
| Bhagalpur-Patna Intercity (13235) | 6:45 AM | 12:30 PM | General | ₹100 |
| Vikramshila Express (12367) | 11:10 AM | 4:55 PM | General | ₹100 |
| Vikramshila Express (12367) | 11:10 AM | 4:55 PM | Sleeper | ₹250 |
| Farakka Express (13483) | 4:25 AM | 10:30 AM | General | ₹100 |
Our recommendation: Take the Intercity Express (6:45 AM) in General class (₹100). You'll reach Patna by 12:30 PM — giving you 5 hours before the Kumbha Express to Haridwar departs at 5:45 PM. Use this time to have lunch at Patna Junction's IRCTC food court and rest in the waiting hall.
Distance: ~1,100 km · Time: 17-18 hours (overnight)
| Train | Departure | Arrival | Class | Fare |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kumbha Express (12369) | 5:45 PM | 10:30 AM | General | ₹280-300 |
| Kumbha Express (12369) | 5:45 PM | 10:30 AM | Sleeper | ₹500 |
| Kumbha Express (12369) | 5:45 PM | 10:30 AM | 3AC | ₹1,200 |
| Doon Express (13009) | 11:25 PM | 5:00 PM | General | ₹280-300 |
| Gangasutlej Express (13307) | 11:30 PM | 6:00 PM | General | ₹280-300 |
Key timing tip: The Kumbha Express at 5:45 PM connects perfectly with the morning Intercity from Bhagalpur. You'll have 5 hours at Patna — enough time to eat, rest, and board comfortably. This is the exact connection my family used.

Minimum 5 days round trip. Day 1-2: travel, Day 3: trek up, Day 4: darshan + return, Day 5: reach home.
Yes. The AC waiting room at Patna Junction (₹50/hour) is clean, safe, and regularly patrolled by RPF. My own family used it.
The Doon Express (11:25 PM) and Gangasutlej Express (11:30 PM) are late-night backups. Or stay overnight at Patna (hotels from ₹800 near station) and take next day's train.
