๐จ Registration is MANDATORY: Without a valid e-pass, you cannot enter beyond Gaurikund. The police check post at Gaurikund scans your QR code. No registration = no trek. This guide covers the complete process โ online, offline, documents needed, and common mistakes.
๐ฅ๏ธ Online Registration โ Step by Step
The official portal is: registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in
Step 1
Open the Official Website
Go to registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in on your phone or computer. This is the ONLY official website. Do not use any other site โ many fake registration sites exist.
Step 2
Create an Account / Login
Click on "Register / Login". Enter your mobile number. You'll receive an OTP โ enter it to verify. No email needed โ just a working Indian mobile number. If you registered last year, use the same number to login.
Step 3
Fill Traveler Details
For each person in your group, enter: Full name (as on Aadhar), age, gender, address, and travel dates. You can add multiple travelers under one account โ perfect for families.
Step 4
Upload ID Proof
Upload a clear photo or scan of your Aadhar card (front side). Acceptable alternatives: Voter ID, Passport, Driving License. File should be under 500 KB โ use your phone camera, it works fine.
Step 5
Download Your E-Pass
After submission, your e-pass is generated instantly. Download it immediately as a PDF. Save it on your phone AND take a printed copy. The QR code on the e-pass is scanned at Gaurikund check post.
๐ข Offline Registration Centers
If you can't register online, these centers can do it for you:
- Haridwar: Near Haridwar Railway Station and Bus Stand
- Rishikesh: Yatra Bus Stand (Tehri Bus Stand)
- Guptkashi: Near the main market
- Sonprayag: Near the parking area / jeep stand
- Gaurikund: Last point โ but registering here means waiting in line when you should be trekking
Tip: Register online before leaving home. Offline counters have long queues during peak season (May-June). Don't waste trekking time on registration.
๐ Required Documents Checklist
- โ
Aadhar Card (original + 1 photocopy) โ most important
- โ
Registration E-Pass (printed copy + saved on phone)
- โ
Passport-size photo (2-3 copies)
- โ
Medical Fitness Certificate โ mandatory for travelers above 60 years, recommended for those with heart/lung conditions
- โ
Helicopter ticket (if booked)
- โ
Mobile phone with the same number used for registration
๐ฅ Medical Fitness Certificate
- Who needs it: Mandatory for travelers above 60 years. Recommended for anyone with heart disease, asthma, high blood pressure, or recent surgery.
- Where to get it: Any registered MBBS doctor can issue it. Many clinics near Haridwar and Rishikesh offer same-day certificates (โน100-300).
- What it says: "The person is medically fit to travel to high altitude (3,583m)." Simple one-page document with doctor's stamp and signature.
โ ๏ธ Common Registration Mistakes & Scams
๐ซ Fake Websites: Only use registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in. Websites like "kedarnath-registration.com" or "char-dham-yatra.org" are FAKE. They charge money and give invalid e-passes.
- Paying for registration: Registration is 100% FREE. If anyone asks for money, it's a scam. Don't pay agents โน500-1,000 to "do your registration" โ it takes 10 minutes on your phone.
- Wrong name on e-pass: Name must match exactly with your Aadhar card. Even a spelling mistake can get you turned back at Gaurikund.
- Expired e-pass: E-passes are valid for the dates you selected. If your travel dates change, register again with new dates.
- Not carrying e-pass: "I have it on email" doesn't work at Gaurikund โ there's no internet. Save it offline on your phone AND carry a printed copy.
โ Frequently Asked Questions
Is registration really free?
Yes, 100% free. The Uttarakhand government does not charge any fee for Kedarnath registration. Anyone asking for money is scamming you.
Can I register for my whole family under one account?
Yes. One mobile number can register multiple travelers. Add each family member separately with their Aadhar details.
How many days before travel should I register?
1-2 weeks before is ideal. You can also register on the day of travel, but don't wait until Gaurikund โ the queue is long.
What if I lose my e-pass?
Login to the registration portal with your mobile number โ you can download it again. Always save a copy on your phone and in your email.
Do children need registration?
Yes. Every person, regardless of age, needs an e-pass. For children without Aadhar, use their birth certificate or school ID.
