โ ๏ธ Trek Safety Tips
- Start early โ by 6-7 AM. Afternoon weather in the mountains can change suddenly. Starting late means you might get caught in rain or fog.
- Walk slowly. Take breaks. This is not a race. Altitude sickness is real โ symptoms include headache, nausea, dizziness. If you feel unwell, STOP, rest, drink water, and descend if symptoms worsen.
- Stay hydrated. Drink water at every checkpoint. Dehydration makes altitude sickness worse.
- Use a trekking stick. Buy one at Gaurikund (โน50-100). It reduces knee strain by 30-40%, especially on the descent.
- Wear proper shoes. Waterproof trekking shoes with good grip. Break them in BEFORE the trip โ new shoes cause blisters.
- Mobile network: Only BSNL works after Rambara. Inform family before starting the trek that you'll be unreachable for 1-2 days.
- Weather changes fast. Carry a lightweight poncho even if the sky is clear in the morning. Mountain weather is unpredictable.
- Medical aid: Medical post at Kedarnath near the temple. For serious emergencies, helicopter evacuation is available โ contact the helpline at 0135-255989.
๐ What to Carry on the Trek
- Essentials: Trekking stick, 2L water bottle, ORS packets, dry fruits/chocolates, power bank, torch.
- Clothing: Warm jacket (even in summer โ nights are cold), raincoat/poncho, cap, sunglasses.
- Documents: Registration e-pass (phone or print), Aadhar card.
- Cash: โน2,000-3,000 in small notes. No ATMs beyond Srinagar.
- Medicine: Pain reliever, band-aids, altitude sickness medicine (consult doctor for Diamox).
